Both unique_id and Submission_Id are reserved keywords which are auto-generated when a New data is added into Sheets. New data can be added into sheets, either through Workflows or Sheets.

When new data is added through Workflow using Submit button, then there are 2 cases -

  1. A Single Row added into Sheet
  2. Multiple Rows added into Sheet (Using Section Repeat)

Single Row Added

In case a Single Row is added to a Sheet than both unique_id and Submission_Id will be unique in their respective column for that particular Sheet.

Let see an example to add Single row -

As shown above, We have a Product Form which has Product name, Product Quantity and Submit button control.

As shown in above Workflow, Data is submitted into UniqueIdSubmissionId sheet (having 3 columns - ProductName, ProductQuantity and Submission_Id), where product_name is unique name for Product Name control and singlequantity is unique name for Quantity control and Submission_Id is auto-generated keyword which will be created when this data is submitted from Product Form.

Multiple Rows Added

In case Multiple Rows are added to a Sheet than unique_id will be unique for all rows added whereas Submission_Id will be same for group of rows added together but unique with respect to previously added Submission_Id's.

Let see an example to add Multiple rows -

As shown above, We have a Product Form which has a Section Repeat control which holds Product name and Product Quantity and Submit button control. User can click on + More button to add more products.

As shown in above Workflow, Data is submitted into UniqueIdSubmissionId sheet (having 3 columns - ProductName, ProductQuantity and Submission_Id), where section_repeat1 is unique name of Section Repeat control and product_name is unique name for Product Name control and singlequantity is unique name for Quantity control and Submission_Id is auto-generated keyword which will be created when this data is submitted from Product Form. Additionally, To add multiple rows we need to enable Repeat Insert operation toggle and add Column names of sheet where multiple values need to be inserted in separate rows.

As shown in above UniqueIdSubmissionId sheet, data is added by submitting from the Product Form. As shown in above form image, 2 Products are submitted from Product Form in single Submit using Section Repeat. As you can see, since each product is added into different row and unique_id is unique for all rows added whereas Submission_Id is same for group of rows added together.

To Summarize, unique_id can be used to uniquely identify a Row in Sheet whereas Submission_Id can be used to uniquely identify group of Rows submitted/Added together.
